Cranberry is also the community’s supplier of fresh water and wastewater treatment – both of which are funded by ratepayers.Ĭranberry owns, maintains and offers programs in three major municipal parks – Cranberry Park, North Boundary Park, and Graham Park – as well as an open-air waterpark, a championship disc golf course, multiple outdoor sport courts and an award-winning 18-hole municipal golf course, Cranberry Highlands. The Township has a full-time police force of 32 officers, a volunteer fire company supported by a dedicated property tax, and an independent Emergency Medical Service organization that coordinates with the Township’s other emergency services. Far more people commute into Cranberry for work than commute from the Township to work at jobs elsewhere.
There are currently around 20,500 jobs in Cranberry. Its commercial growth has been enabled by ordinances designed to implement comprehensive plans that the Township’s Board of Supervisors adopted in 1977, 1995, 2009, and 2017. Its economic development is balanced, involving a variety of industries. Today, there are more than 1,000 businesses of every size in Cranberry. Originally incorporated in 1804, Cranberry was primarily an agricultural community until the 1970s and ‘80s when, thanks to its location 20 miles north of Pittsburgh at the intersection of two Interstate highways, its economy and population began to soar.
